28W1D - Cervix & Growth Scan Update

First of all 'Thank You' for all your encouraging comments and support. I am sorry, I might not have replied back to you personally (since I am slacking a little with blogging)... but I am still reading your comments and posts, and they mean a lot to me.

Here is a brief update...

01/15/10 Cervix: 1.8 cm

01/20/10 fFN (@ OB): Negative

01/20/10 OB Update: There is a possibility of me getting on to medications (pills not insulin) for GD at my next visit (02/03/10)... my values have been steadily rising recently (started monitoring since 14W)!

01/22/10 Cervix: 1.9/2.0 cm!! The cervix has been going down by ~0.3 cm each week... so this was totally unexpected! I know things can go in any direction, but this is a momentary relief!

01/22/10 Growth: Baby Boy is weighing 2 lbs 8 oz and Baby Girl is weighing 2 lbs 12 oz at 28W1D!! I hope they keep growing at this rate and get stronger day by day!

The hospital I go to does not perform cervix scans after 28W... so this was our last one (unless things change drastically - major contractions/labor/fFN)... the next growth scan will be in 3 weeks (02/12/10). This will be the longest I will have gone w/o an u/s since the NT scan (12W) and first cervix scan (16W). And I am willing to wait - cause that would mean that things are relatively stable. When I enquired with my OB and the MFM, they said that one is not admitted at this stage for a (super) shortened cervix, unless it is accompanied by major contractions or labor or positive fFN. So, for now the bedrest, HUAM and medication (Procardia) continues. I can't thank my Mom and DH enough for making the bedrest (4 weeks now) as smooth as it has been.

  1. Now would be a good time to start watching entire seasons of shows you haven't seen...that'll keep you busy! As a TV addict, I highly recommend (depending on your taste): LOST, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dexter, Rescue Me, 30 Rock, and True Blood. There are plenty of others I give the thumbs up, but that's a good start. Or, as I do on days when I need a distraction, just veg out with a HGTV marathon of House Hunters (International is the best!).

  2. Coming over from LCFA to give you a more encouragement. 28 weeks is great! I'm almost 27 weeks pregnant with twins (though we recently discovered we lost our boy two weeks ago), and have been struggling through this pregnancy as well. I did the whole med/bedrest/HUAM thing with my son also. It's truly exhausting to lay around...anyone who says it's not hasn't been there before.

Hoping that those babies stay put for a good while longer.

  6. Wow, we are going through nearly the exact same thing! Crazy... I am currently not on anything for my GD, but being on bedrest (even if it's only a day for me so far) seems to be taking its toll on my sugar levels (my fasting was up 6 points this morning). Plus chilling in the kitchen while I hard boil eggs or chop up some chicken is now not allowed so my DH needs to learn to cook ;) At least this is all happening later in our pregnancies so the risks are less.

The thing I am struggling with at this second is my nesting instincts. I want to go through and organize all of my babies' things that were given to me in the last week (and they keep on coming) and I just can't. Luckily DH is going through a nesting daddy mode and is doing a lot for them right now. He even said at the Dr office yesterday that he needs to get a t-shirt that says "daddy" on it for when the babies get here ;)

Take care, and keep updating :)

  7. So far no contractions but one nasty one in the grocery store last week. I also had some slight mucos changes once last week but it was really minor. I am hoping that doesn't change - I will be hospital bound if it does!

I'm gonna ask my dr for the ffn test at my appt next Monday. I'm sure he'd do it anyway...

You are so lucky to have your parents there. My mom just left to go back to Texas and 2500 miles is just too far to be away from her!
